How to Register a .PK Domain

The Official Process for .PK Domains

Unlike global domains such as .com, the .pk namespace is centrally managed by PKNIC. The registration process is straightforward, but it has a unique payment requirement: you must use a prepaid card to fund your account.

Step 1: Create a PKNIC Account

Before you can register anything, you need an account on the official registry.

1. Go to pknic.net.pk.
2. Click on "Sign Up" or "Register New Account".
3. Fill out your personal or business details accurately. Ensure your email is accessible.
4. Verify your email address to activate the account.

Step 2: Search for Your Domain

Once logged in, use the search bar to check if your desired domain name is available. Remember that premium or short domains might have special restrictions. If it is available, click to proceed with registration.

Step 3: Enter Domain Details & Nameservers

You will be prompted to enter:

• Registrant Details: The legal owner of the domain.
• Technical & Admin Contacts: Can be the same as the registrant.
• Nameservers: (e.g., ns1.yourhost.com). You can get these from your web hosting provider.

Step 4: The 2-Year Upfront Payment

This is the most critical step. PKNIC does not allow 1-year registrations. Every new .pk domain must be registered for a minimum of 2 years. Furthermore, PKNIC does not accept direct credit card payments on their site.

You must apply a PKNIC Prepaid Card (which acts as a credit token) to your account to cover the cost.

Step 5: Finalize and Wait for Propagation

Once the card code is applied, the registration will process. Your domain status will change to "Active". It may take up to 24-48 hours for global DNS propagation before your website becomes fully visible worldwide.
